Relais & Châteaux

Relais & Châteaux is an association of 580 independently operated hotels and restaurants across 65 countries, founded in 1954. The network unites hoteliers, chefs, and restaurateurs committed to authentic hospitality rooted in local traditions, regional gastronomy, and cultural preservation rather than standardized luxury.

Member properties range from family-run châteaux in the French countryside to boutique retreats celebrating indigenous culinary heritage, each cultivating its own distinct sense of place. The association emphasises collaboration with local artisans and farmers, positioning gastronomy and environmental stewardship as integral to the hospitality experience.

Relais & Châteaux has adopted 12 sustainability commitments endorsed by UNESCO, establishing a framework for members to balance cultural and gastronomic heritage with environmental responsibility. These commitments reflect the association's broader philosophy that excellence in hospitality emerges from genuine passion and dedication to place, rather than adherence to corporate protocols.
